Barker’s Barkings.

I’m actually on my new computer right now.

I hand built it.

As you can see everything is working..

Well.. everything that matters.

There’s one slight problem though.

Windows doesn’t recognize my 320 gig hard drives as 320 gig drives. It sees them as 120 gig drives… however, the thing is, I formatted them to be NTFS so they should be seen as 320 gig drives.. unfortunately they don’t.

Anyone got any ideas why it’s doing that?

As you read from my blog last night…

I thought I was going to make my layout like this:

(120 Gig PATA) C:\ OS & Applications.
(120 Gig PATA) D:\ Music.
(320 Gig SATA) E:\ Games.
DVD Rom / Burner (SATA) F:\

I talked to a few friends and they advised something a lot better, using the SATA drive as an OS, Applications, and Games drive. After I install XP fresh on the new SATA drive without having anything else installed, I’ll take the time to install my two old 120 gigs, then I’ll copy the music from the drive that has it, to the new C:\ and then format both, then move the music back over to the new E:\ drive.

So my new configuration will be:

(320 Gig SATA) C:\ OS, Applications & Games.
(120 Gig PATA) D:\ Downloads.
(120 Gig PATA) E:\ Music.
DVD Rom / Burner (SATA) F:\

As for the reason for doing this, it’s because the SATA drive generates more speed for accessing my data and will make the games and applications faster when I need to access them.

The D drive, will be for downloads, so that I can remove the downloads directory on my desktop (at long last).. and keep track of everything I download in a nice clean spot, and finally the E:\ drive will be for all of my music that I have.

Simple, effective, and a damn good use for my new PC. :]
